Comox Valley Environ. Council
The Comox Valley Environmental Council will have a meeting at the Comox Regional District Boardroom, 550B Comox Road, Courtenay, at 7:00 pm, Apr. 15, 2009. Local wildlife biologist Warren Fleenor will present some of the environmental study details of the Longlands golf course redevelopment project. The regular CVEC meeting will follow.
The owners of the Longlands Golf Course on 75 acres just north of Comox are in the early stages of planning a mixed residential and commercial development. A set of very detailed environmental and economic feasibility studies are underway, and there have been a series of informative public meetings. The project will be designed to focus on sustainability, based on the Triple Bottom Line (environmental, social, and economic). The environmental work to date has been exemplary, and the company, Island Coastal Ventures is to be congratulated on the detail of the work and its outreach work with the local population.
The Comox Valley Environmental Council is an 18 year old 'Not for Profit Society' which acts as an umbrella organization for 18 local environmental organizations and local Municipal and Regional representatives. CVEC meets about seven times a year, meetings are open to the public, are generally with a small group of people, and often include a short presentation of some local issue. We especially welcome attendance by any representatives of Environmental organizations which may wish to join CVEC. For more information on CVEC, please see our webpage on ‘Tide Change’.
