This may be one of the shortest reports I have written recently! It is Monday evening, the showers have ended for now, and there is just enough evening left for a brisk walk.
My sincerest congratulations to our MLA, Claire Trevena, on her victory at the polls on May 12th. I look forward to another four years of working with Claire on the many provincial issues that effect our daily lives. I would also like to extend a warm thank you to Mike McIvor for supporting Claire in his role as her partner. I know I cannot do without Wendy's help in the work I do at the Regional District! So, my congratulations, once again, to both of you.
The Community Garden is up and running and I would like to thank all of the organizers and volunteers that helped to make this happen. It is a wonderful concept and has proven to be a wonderful project on the ground. The organizers have worked tirelessly at this for many months and have done an amazing job of fundraising and recruiting volunteers to work at the garden, getting it ready for others to use! I attended a bit of a gathering two weeks ago and it was amazing to see how much had been done in so short a time. I think this is one more example of what can be done when islanders are willing to get behind a project and work together. Great work!
Granite Bay Celebration
I have just finalized the arrangements with our staff for the "grand opening" of the Granite Bay Park Wharf. The works are complete and we are going to get together to celebrate this accomplishment on Saturday, May 30th, from 12 noon until 2 pm or whenever! The SRD will supply the sandwiches and drinks and deserts. So all you have to do is show up. Come and see what is available to you for your recreation and enjoyment. The volunteers and businesses that helped out on the project will be there, so come and help me thank them publicly! It should be a lot of fun.
And one last piece of good news!
The Plutonic Power Bute Inlet proposal has gone through the first environmental review process and has been directed to go though the much more detailed Canadian Environmental Assessment Act Review Panel. Short of having the project turned down, this was the best news we could hope for. Your involvement in letter writing and attending meetings has surely helped get us to this point. I continue to work with the dedicated group of volunteers that have been working on this daily since day one. We are in the process of preparing for the Joint Review Panel and will keep you informed along the way. Your help is still needed! So stay tuned.
And that is it for this issue... Feel free to call me between the hours of 8:30 am and 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday (not on weekends, folks!) at 285-3355, or you can fax me at 285-3533 or you can email me anytime at abramfamoberon.ark.com , or by mail at Box 278 in the Cove, V0P 1N0... Lots of choices!
