Claire Trevena
While Question Period in the legislature has been focused on government insiders, debate outside that half hour has focused on two potentially opposing ministries: the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Environment.

Claire was able to discuss the plans for a gravel mine in Sayward with the Minister of State for Mining as well as the future expansion of the sand and gravel operation in Port McNeill. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70426p.htm#7257

And she raised the transfer of a hydro line to Kyuquot to BC Hydro with the Minister of Energy. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70426a.htm#7200

Claire will be raising local environmental concerns in the estimates debates of the Ministry of Environment next week.

People in Campbell River may have seen Project Clothesline this week to mark Prevention of Violence Against Women week. Claire described this – and talked about issues of violence against women – during a two minute member’s statement. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70424p.htm#7086

And the petitions opposing cuts to childcare continue to flood in to her office. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70425p.htm#7131

Claire always takes pleasure in meeting with young people when they come to the Legislature. She was able to introduce a group from Linnaea School on Cortes Island (http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70426p.htm#7211 ) as well as talk with them after a rowdy question period.

And Claire took part in a very thought provoking debate on the future of the murals in the hallways of the Legislature. Claire’s statement tried to address the balance between history and respect of first nations. http://www.leg.bc.ca/hansard/38th3rd/H70424p.htm#7119
