There will also be a separate short presentation by Marlene Smith regarding Strathcona Park, and some of the effects of recent changes in BC parks policies.
Dave Davies has been involved with the Courtenay River estuary for many years now, and has ‘worn many hats’ including: professional, helper with Project Watershed; Watershed Symposiums and many other local and estuary issues. This wide range of experience makes him an excellent choice of speaker on this topic, please come out and learn more about YOUR estuary.
The Courtenay River Estuary is a large area at the end of a somewhat short river. The area has had a varied history ranging from the many prehistoric native uses, non-native settlement uses, more modern industrial uses (and/or misuses), many of which have led to its current ‘recovery’ phase. The emphasis is now on; public use, water quality issues, parks, protection and re-establishment of natural species, etc. This is a very complex area which is changing even as we watch. Please come to this presentation, learn more, and find what you can do to make ‘The Estuary’ better for all of us and future generations.
