Quadra History Club cooking at Cortes Island Museum

We went to Cortes island. We visited Whaletown cemetery. We found a lot of interesting graves and we saw where Whaletown School used to be, near the cemetery.

Next we went to the Cortes Museum. There we saw Margaret Manson's wedding dress. Back then they wore black dresses for weddings, with a shirt top and a long skirt that matches. We also saw Alice Robertson's diary. A quote from the diary said, "Today is Sunday. The steamer came in and we got eggs." Next we got to use an old-fashioned stove. We opened up the ash hopper and ashes went spraying in Anna's face. We also got to try old-time telephones (though one of them didn't work). Old-time telephones are a wooden box with an earpiece that hangs down by a hook and a mouth piece and two bells.

After that we went to Linnaea School and listened to Jeanette tell a story about Jane Manson and First Nations stories.

Overall – we had fun!
