Explore the fascinating world of Chinese brush painting while participating in various demonstrations and exercises. You will be guided to create your own renditions using Chinese brushes, ink and watercolors that emphasize basic techniques. These include correct brush holding and basic brushstroke skills as well as methods of inking the brush and color mixing. This workshop caters to beginners as well as returning students and features a relaxed and encouraging environment for everyone. Beginners will be taught the basics of painting with ink on watercolour and rice paper while those with previous experience will further their skills under the guidance of established master Nancy Ruen-Fen Chen.
Teaching throughout the Lower Mainland and selling her work internationally, Nancy Ruen-Fen Chen is known for her distinctive style of Chinese Brush Painting that often blends traditional and contemporary methods and subjects.
Rice paper, Chinese ink, some brushes & watercolors will be available to use during the workshop. Beginner students may purchase a set of four Chinese brushes and a ceramic painting palette from the instructor for $37 at the first class. Additional supplies may be purchased from the instructor.
