GO! That word describes the current status.
Marshall Toelle has been hired as Supervisor/Carpenter and Frank Charron as Lead Carpenter, and three trainees have been chosen from applicants for the Ministry of Labor and Social Development Job Creation Program. Interviews were completed on Sunday, May 30. Crews will be organized and materials delivered to site within the next few days, and work will start!
To say that members of the Board of Directors are a happy bunch is the understatement of the year.
In other news, we are working with BC Housing on a significant grant and arrangment of financing for the second duplex. An operating budget has been prepared for 4 rental units so that we can begin talking seriously about a mortgage to make the second duplex possible, since considerable savings could result from building both at the same time. Any volunteering of time or equipment will help to reduce the size of the mortgage, so if you can help in any way, contact Val Barr at 2841. More on this in the near future.
We welcome the 36th member of the 1000 Club. These folks are the heart of Quadra community support. The operating budget mentioned above shows that we are 30 thousand dollars short of being able to fund the first duplex with cash, so 30 more members are needed, or a somewhat lesser number of philanthropists who can afford more than $1000. Think about it – the project is now GO!
