Campbell River Art Gallery
Fri., July 2 – Fri., Aug 6
Mon –Sat, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Opening reception: Friday July 9th, 7-9pm
At the Campbell River Art Gallery

Campbell River artist Mary Donlan has a passion for forests and gardens. Her delight in the colours and form she finds there stops visitors in their tracks when they enter Campbell River Art Gallery’s main exhibition hall. Donlan’s massive canvasses, presented in her exhibition titled Into the Garden, are her abstract response to nature. They’re loaded with joy and emotion.

Donlan’s exhibition opens on July 9 at 7:00 p.m. and the public are invited to attend to meet the artist. Donlan moved to Campbell River from London, Ontario several years ago, opening a studio here in 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and has won awards for her work in the last three Members’ Exhibitions at Campbell River Art Gallery.

Opening that same night is Local Views, a group exhibition featuring regional artists in the Discovery Gallery. Some of the work in this exhibition was created during Campbell River’s first art walk last weekend. All of the pieces are a response to living in our community and they’re being sold during the exhibition as a fundraiser to support gallery programming. Those that remain at the end of the show will be sold by silent auction at a Wearable Art Fashion Show on August 6 at 7:00 p.m., a showcase of wildly imaginative art fitted to the human form. This exhibition is sponsored by Kask Graphics and CR Physiotherapy.

“This is a fashion show like no other you’ve ever seen,” says Campbell River Art Gallery Director Jeanette Taylor. “A few pieces are fashion statements you could buy and wear to make a bold entrance, but most are pure flights of fancy.”

Tickets for the Wearable Art Fashion Show are $35, which includes wine and appetizers. They go on sale on opening night for the Into the Garden and Local Views exhibitions on July 9 at 7:00 p.m. Contact the Gallery at 250-287-2261 for more information. The Gallery, with admission by donation, is in Tyee Plaza and is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00-5:00 p.m.
