It's that season again – Quadra's smallest road warriors, the brown and orange Rough Skinned Newts, are taking to the pavement as they make their overland crossings from stream to stream. There are a few newt hot spots on the island, one of them being Hyacinthe Bay Road about two kilometers before the Salmon Eco-Centre. A series of signs point out the newt crossing zone, and drivers can greatly assist the newts' survival by slowing down and avoiding these brave little critters as they cross the road. True newt enthusiasts have been known to stop their cars and carry the transiting newts to safety.
