Saturday, October 16th at the Quadra Community Centre:
Dr. Andrew Wright will be giving presentations on two very different topics. The first is titled: Closed Containment Salmon Farming – A Conversation about Conservation.
An engineer, conservationist and photographer, Dr. Wright has spent the last two years studying the technologies and economics of land based closed containment salmon aquaculture. On Saturday, October 16th, he will give a lively powerpoint presentation on the findings of his recently published report "Technologies for Viable Salmon Aquaculture”. This report was recently presented to the government’s standing committee for Fisheries and Oceans and reported in the Globe and Mail. The report challenges the long-held industry view that closed containment facilities are too costly and technologically challenging to build. Time for dialogue and debate will be provided after the technical presentation.
Dr. Wright has also recently published two photo books, “Faltering Light” and “Emeralds at the Edge”. Time permitting, Dr. Wright will give a photographic journey through the Great Bear Rainforest. To view some of Dr. Wright’s photographic works go to www.cold-coast.comPlease note – this event will be starting at 7 pm. The QICC doors will be open at 6:30 and refreshments and the usual home baking will be available.
