Twenty of Quadra’s seniors met for two hours on May 14 at the Quadra Community Centre. Our purpose was to explore possibilities related to improving the quality of life for Quadra’s growing population of seniors and support healthy, graceful aging. The meeting was an enthusiastic, productive, good-humoured, brainstorming session that generated many ideas.
Here are some of the main ideas that we hope to pursue:
1. Community volunteer services
2. Physical and educational activities
3. Options for creating appropriate space for recreation, support and living
4. Possibilities for improving continuing care
(assisted living, support groups, meals on wheels, etc.)
5. Socially enjoyable activities.
As a beginning, three team facilitators volunteered to work with others to develop some more detailed ideas over the next few weeks:
Karen Gair - Meals on Wheels
Annie Strong - Social/Fun Activities
Heather Kellerhals - Planning for Facilities, Long-term Housing
Mary McIntosh agreed to facilitate meetings as we move ahead.
If you are interested in aging successfully on Quadra Island and have something to contribute or are just curious, you might like to talk to one of the people named above, and/or come to the next meeting. This meeting will be held in room #1 at the community centre on Monday, June 11, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. (Coffee will be available.) Are there needs associated with seniors’ living that are not being met for you here on Quadra?
