Dr. Thierry Vrain, Biotechnologist and Gentleman Farmer will be guest speaker at the November 8th Garden Club meeting, 7pm at the Community Centre. He has prepared a presentation about Genetic Engineering and GMOs that is of interest to most people, not just the gardeners. Would you like to know how to avoid eating foods that have been modified - then join us for an interesting discussion. Dr. Vrain is willing to answer all of your questions.

As a molecular biologist, Dr. Vrain finished his career in genetic engineering. That was then. Now he has become an organic gardener and campaigns to warn people of the abuses of GMO technology, and the dangers to our health and the environment. Dr. Vrain, and his wife Chanchal Cabrera (who recently spoke to the club about medicinal herbs), have acreage near Royston. They have made a dramatic change to their careers and are developing a garden they call Innisfree. Their vision is to share their knowledge by making their farm a destination for health seekers see

We share plants, seed catalogues and garden knowledge at the garden club. New members welcome. Annual membership is $10 which gives a discount at many local nurseries. Drop Ins $2. Remember, that now is the time to winterize before it is too late. Frozen pipes, irrigation parts and hose nozzles will break in frigid winter temperatures. It is time to lift the summer bulbs - the begonias, gladiolas, unprotected dahlias and any non hardy plants that may still be out in the cool night temperatures. You will enjoy them next year if you look after them now.
