At Seniors Housing, construction is progressing smoothly with the first tenants able to live in a suite by the new year. Luckily, the crew have indoor work on these very wet days of fall. The floors are going in and the cabinets are being finished. Outside, the driveways are being built and some trees planted. Dont forget, the deadline to apply as a tenant for the first two units is November 5th. The second duplex or units three and four will have a deadline for application in the new year. The sooner you apply the better, since the Society has already received several applications.
We would like to thank RTL Painting for donating all of their labour for the first units. Richard and Judy Leicester were the first of the trades to say they would donate part of their time to the Seniors Housing Project. RTL then went further and asked for free interior paint from Cloverdale in Campbell River - 10 gallons donated and a reduced price on the balance. Thank you to the Leicesters for their great community support. Cloverdale Paint has helped again with the colour selection - thank you to Linda at the Campbell River store. If you have not been past the site lately check out the colours - the homes are looking great.
Viann and Ken Vaux of Viken Waste have been looking after the onsite dumpster. While the crew are being environmentally friendly and recycling wood scraps as firewood, there is still a great amount of waste with new construction. Thank you to Viken for donating back a good percentage of the cost of the waste management. Your support is appreciated.
Patrick Field, of Shook Wickham Bishop and Field has just completed pro bono work for the Society for the second time this year. Patrick says he was on the Board of Seniors Housing in the early 1990s and is pleased to help the project out. Thank you CR Lawyers for your generosity. The loan negotiation, which the Society has just completed, was also assisted with pro bono work by Gurdeep Sidhu - Notary Public. Thanks Gurdeep for the very generous donation of your time.
While the long term loan will keep us building, we are not in the black yet. We do not have the finances yet, to complete without further fundraising. The Society does have several applications out for grant assistance and we will be talking to BC Housing again in the new year. Please help out over the next few months if you can. We expect to have a number of fundraising enterprises over the winter to raise the shortfall. Thank you to this community for your help. This type of work makes Quadra a healthy, whole and caring place to live.
For Sale: The Society has surplus (200bf) 1" edge grain, old growth, Douglas Fir for finishing work. This wood was donated several years ago and we are not using it. We are offering it for sale at $3 a board foot. Call John Toelle at 285 3783.
