Elias Barhoom is a 10 year old boy living in Lattakia, Syria. He has suffered from kidney failure for most of his life. He has had 7 surgeries since birth, been on dialysis for the past 8 months and is now awaiting a kidney transplant. In Canada, organ donation is a gift but in Syria there is no such thing as organ donation or government medical coverage. His parents have exhausted their funds, and although a compatible kidney has been found, help is needed for the transplant surgery to proceed.
Merril and Fouad Awad, owners of Baba Ganoush Restaurant in Campbell River, are committed to saving the life of their nephew. Among other efforts, they are organizing a fund-raising garage sale to be held at the Campbell River United Church on Saturday, November 20th from 10-3 pm. On Quadra, Lise and Ricky Burnett have generously offered their home at 732 Cramer (285-3558) as a drop-off for donations to this sale. As well, financial donations of any amount are being gratefully accepted and can be deposited into a Kidney Fund to help save Elias's life. For further information on how to donate to the garage sale or financially, please conatact Michael or Carol Foort at 250-285-3035.
