The BC Earthquake Alliance would like to invite you to join the first annual ShakeOut BC Earthquake Drill on January 26, 2011 at 10 am.
British Columbia is located in a seismically active region where a few thousand earthquakes occur each year. Although only a small number of these earthquakes are large enough to cause damage, the threat of a major earthquake in the province is real.
On January 26, 2011 – the 311th anniversary of BC’s last magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami – a locally-driven, province wide “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” drill will take place called “ShakeOut BC”.
(1) Quadra Elementary School is having a school wide SHAKEOUT drill at 10 AM.
(2) Many Quadra Emergency Program ESS volunteers are participating with family members in their own homes. Some ESS volunteers along with the Quadra Fire Dep’t will attend the Quadra OAP meeting that morning, and assist seniors in participating in the practice drill.
Other volunteers will attend the Community lunch at Quadra Community Centre, and a drill will be held there at 10 am, and again at 1230 when more participants are present.
All citizens across British Columbia are encouraged to take part in the largest earthquake drill in Canadian history! For more info go to the website:http://www.shakeoutbc.ca
