Books & Music - Nature
Grizzly bears and the smaller black and spirit (white or Kermode) bears are the subject matter of this book, but their habitat, the Great Bear Rainforest, which stretches up and through coastal northern British Columbia to the tip of the Alaska Panhandle, is an equal player here.
For, as the authors argue, without the bears’ habitat, forests that “support more living matter, what scientists call biomass, than the tropical rainforest in the Amazon,” the “salmon bears” have no future. The subtext of this excellent book, then, is the urgent need to preserve this unique environment, the “great web of life.”
