On the morning of August 27, 2011 the Quadra Island RCMP Detachment received a report that a forty six year old male had gone missing, overnight, from a sailboat anchored in Carrington Bay, Cortes Island. At the time, a large outdoor weekend rave had been occurring at Carrington Bay.

Members of the Quadra Island Detachment, RCMP West Coast Marine Services, the Coast Guard and military Search and Rescue immediately conducted a joint search of the area.

The RCMP Dive Team was called in to assist with an underwater area search and unfortunately located the missing male deceased in the water.

The male's disappearance and death is not suspicious and the circumstances surrounding his death are being jointly investigated by the Quadra Island RCMP Detachment and the British Columbia Coroner's Service.

It is believed that alcohol played a significant role in the male's death and people are reminded that alcohol and water can lead to very dangerous, and in this case, tragic consequences.

The name of the deceased male is not being released.
