Well, everyone! This is the night that (as I write this) you will be meeting with the BC Ferry Commissioner at the Community Centre. It is the night that you are supposed to be packing the hall and letting him know how ferry fares are effecting our community and our economy. And it is the night that you are supposed to be telling him that the ferry system needs to be part of the Ministry of Transportation and treated like the rest of the highways in BC. I do hope that you are there and making our case heard. I will be meeting with the Premier and the Minister on Tuesday the 27th to make the same case along with 11 other Regional Districts and the Islands Trust. I found it very distressing this past week when on three separate occasions, people said "what ferry meeting?" when i brought up the topic. This has been publicized by me and others for two months. I would hope that everyone would read the various publications on the island, both in hard copy and on line. I really hope these three people were the exception. I am looking forward to the report back to me while I am in Vancouver, regarding the Quadra meeting. I trust that it will be stupendous!

Local Government Elections

I would like to let you know that I intend to run in this election for another term. I am totally committed to this community and wish to see through a number of initiatives that we have started such as the Local Area Plan for Quatiaski Cove, the sewer extension for the additional properties that are in need of it in the Cove area, and numerous other projects that need continuity. I have dedicated a great deal of my life to this community as has my wife, Wendy and both of my kids. I have appreciated your support in the past and look forward to it this next term. All I can promise you is that I will give it my very best at all times on your behalf.

Stuart Island Community Association

I will be facilitating / mediating another meeting of the association and trying to work out some of their difficulties on Oct. 3rd, on Stuart Island. This is a typical "growing pains" situation (with some added twists!) and I am sure that we can come to agreement and have a totally functioning community association in the future. More than 50 people have been invited. It should be interesting.

Union of BC Municipalities

As I have mentioned a number of times, I will be attending the AGM of the UBCM from Sept. 24th through Oct. 1st. I will still have email access and will answer email as time permits. It is a crazy, busy schedule all week, but I will do my best to keep in touch.

I am always available. Feel free to call me between the hours of 8:30 am and 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday (please, not on weekends, folks!) at 285-3355, or you can fax me at 285-3533 or you can email me anytime at jimabramxplornet.ca , or by mail at Box 278 in the Cove, V0P 1N0... Lots of choices.

Please note my new email address. The old "oberon" address is no longer active.

Respectfully submitted,
