Is your garden ready for a new look? Monday October 17th, at the community centre, Helena Hartwood from Hartwood Garden Designs in Courtenay, will speak to the garden club on renovating your garden: implementing changes for renewed pleasure and use of your outdoor space. Helena will share her experience, using the Four Guidelines to Renovating your Garden, with examples and some unusual suggestions. After Helena’s talk, you will be able to take an objective look at your outdoor space, and visualize what needs to be changed. There is always something that can be added, pruned or moved and this is a great time of year to plan changes for next year.

On her last visit, Helena gave an interesting and informed workshop on pruning. This year, she is offering an indoor talk, on deadwood pruning for shrubs and trees. She will also be available (at a reasonable rate) for one on one consultation in your garden, or to help you begin your garden renovation plan. For these extra sessions, please contact her directly at hhartwoodgmail.com

It seems that this has been a year for cool and damp weather. We are still waiting for summer to happen, and now we have a wet and warm fall. The only thing that has not been late is the rain. Oh well, that is the life of a gardener, learning to accept and be grateful for what comes your way. Although the hot weather plants have not had enough sun, the greens have had a long and healthy season - kale anyone? If you have flowers in your garden please bring them to the meeting, and give everyone some joy as we enter the darker season. The maple trees are late to change. Will they fall green with the first cold weather or we still see their glorious light a few weeks late? Annual membership is $10, $15 for family. Drop Ins $2.
