Friday Flicks presents Jane Eyre at 7:45, on October 14th at the Quadra Community Centre. The film is rated:G.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Cary Fukunaga, Jane Eyre is a powerful, moving adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel. Holding to the traditional narrative, Fukunaga successfully infuses his film with contemporary vitality and spirit, creating a lyrical work of art.
After a miserable childhood, Jane Eyre escapes her past and is hired as a governess for a wealthy young ward. Living happily in her new position, she meets the master of the house, the abrupt and cold Edward Rochester. As the two characters form an unlikely friendship, the young Jane soon finds herself falling in love with the troubled older gentleman.
Mia Wasikowska delivers a powerful performance as the tragic heroine, while Michael Fassbender is both charming and detestable as the mysterious and haunting wealthy master. An outstanding supporting cast includes Sally Hawkins as Jane’s adoptive aunt, and Judi Dench as the resident gossip and housekeeper, Mrs. Fairfax.
Jane Eyre is a wildly emotional story of romance, drama and dark secrets.
