The rumors are true! On October 29th and 30th the Pantoloons are bringing their soon- to- be world famous pantomime, Dick Whittington and his Wonderful Cat, to the Quadra Community Centre. Featuring a cast ranging in age from 6 to 60+, this is a family show that is not to be missed. Be amazed by flying fairies and wicked ferries. Be astounded by sea serpents, secret agents, and terrified reporters. Lose your hearts to the cutest kittens this side of reality. Laugh at the tough toms and their golden-hearted girlfriends. Cheer while Dick strives to get to Quadra from the wilds of Read Island with the help of his extraordinary mother and a poor but not-so-honest cat. But wait, there’s more!! You’ll also be astonished by prancing feline feet and music that spans the generations, all accompanied by the famous, flying finger flourishes of Linda Cannon.

The Pantoloons are members of Theatre Quadra, the Island’s community theatre group, and are dedicated to making theatre accessible for actors and audiences through the traditional English pantomime - musical comedy with a twist! Most of those in the large cast are acting for the first time but some have been acting since they were kids. The pantomime is a theatrical form that first became popular in Britain in the 1900’s and is still going strong today. It is usually staged around Christmas and is based on a familiar fairy tale or children’s story. In the pantomime tradition, the principal boy (the hero) is played by a woman, and his mother is played by a man. What makes it more fun is that the actors are not just expecting, but encouraging, the audience to boo or hiss the bad guys and cheer the good guys. The (not-so-clever) good guys have to depend on the audience to yell ‘watch out’ (it’s the Quadrasaurus!) or warn them that other characters are ‘right behind you.’

Singing, Dancing, Comedy, Seasoned Actors, First Time Thespians, Cute Children, Outrageous Costumes. Dick Whittington and his Wonderful Cat has it all. Be part of the fun. October 29th at 7p.m. and October 30th at 2 p.m. Quadra Community Centre.
Tickets available at Music Plant in Campbell River, at Hummingbird Office and Art Supply on Quadra, and at the door. For information, call 250-285-2379.
