Shauna Lambeth from Campbell River Garden Centre, will be guest speaker at the November 14th Garden Club meeting, 7pm at the Community Centre. Shauna and Nigel, have owned and operated the Garden Centre since 1995. Their staff, with varied gardening interests, offer a wealth of knowledge. After 17 years as owner, Shauna looks forward to the start of each new gardening season. She says that their customers and their staff are the garden centre’s greatest assets. Although managing a garden centre keeps her busy, she also loves to garden.
The topic for the evening will be ‘how to create a winter hanging planter’. Shauna will bring a wide selection of plants to make that outside the front door pot look fantastic throughout the next five months These hands on demonstrations are always fun. If time permits Shauna will answer any seasonal questions the club may have. The completed winter planter will be a door prize, so make sure to pick up your ticket as you enter the hall. Come out and enjoy this last meeting of 2011.
After a late start, autumn has been a glorious season, with more colour on the trees this year than normal. Those warm days of October have the trees holding on to their leaves with the cherries, maples, blueberries, and cascaras showing a fantastic display of colour in this first week of November. Isn’t it great to rake up dry leaves instead of soggy mats of heavy wet ones. Don’t forget to dig those summer bulbs and to winterize your irrigation and hose nozzles. You will be buying new ones next year, if they don’t get them disconnected soon. Please bring something for the show and tell table - we know there are still flowers blooming in your garden. Annual membership is $10 which gives a discount at many local nurseries. Drop In $2.
