I would like to wish each and every one of you the best possible New Year imaginable. I hope that everything goes your way! We have lots of work ahead of us in the new year and I hope all of you are up for it. There will be lots of public involvement required and I look forward to meeting the challenges head on and making things better for all of my constituents. So far we have had a pretty good winter and we are on the upswing now, so enjoy that extra daylight each day. I know I will! This will be a fairly brief report, but I wanted to mention a few things.
For the past many years Rob McKerracher has been my Alternate Director. He has done a great job of filling in for me at meetings as required. His presence at those meetings insured that Area C had a voice when I was unable to attend due to some pressing conflict. Rob has decided that it is time to move on and I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely express my thanks and appreciation for his efforts and his counsel when required.
I have now appointed Dan MacKenzie to the position. Dan and his wife Leslie moved to Quadra five years ago after retiring from his 30 year teaching / admininstrative position with the Qualicum School District. I have worked with Dan many times on various projects since he moved to Quadra. He has volunteered his service to a variety of projects / endeavours including the construction of the Community Garden, Free Firewood, the Community Lunch, the construction of the new Granite Bay Wharf, and the development and maintenance of the trails system through the Quadra Trails Committee.
I appreciate Dan accepting this position and I feel he will do a good job for Area C in my absence and I look forward to working with him. For Dan's sake, I would like to point out that the alternate director only has authority to act on regional district business in my absence. So, if I can't answer your call, please don't phone Dan. You should all know that I will get back to you!
As I mentioned in my last report, I will be meeting with Telus next week. I will give you the full report after that takes place. The meeting I mentioned with Minister Pat Bell is still on and will now be closer to the end of the month. It is still happening, though. We have our first committee meetings next Wednesday and will be moving very quickly into the budget process for 2012. We also hope to be into the meetings for our Qauthiaski Cove Local Area Plan amendments to the Official Community Plan. I have not heard a peep about the Gowlland Views development proposal. I will let you know when I do.

Please note my email address. The old "oberon" address is no longer active. Also, please do not use my residential phone number for SRD calls. All business calls should be on 285-3355. Many thanks!
