On Friday, Feb. 10th at 7:45, Friday Flicks presents Starbuck at the Quadra Community Centre. The film is in French with English subtitles and is rated 14A.
STARBUCK is the story of David Wozniak, a 42-year-old adolescent who still eats Honeycomb cereal and dresses in sports jerseys; the anti-hero of this potent comedy of genetic chaos.
The movie title of refers not to the coffee but to a famous Canadian Holstein bull that sired thousands of calves around the same time David was sowing his anonymous oats by making sperm donations - a total of 648 at $35 each. But the confidentiality laws are being challenged in court and David’s friend and lawyer, Paul, informs David that his deposits have matured into 533 adults, 142 of them have unionized over the net and want to meet him.
STARBUCK is unapologetic genre filmmaking with a winning performance from its lead, a shambling, likeable comedian who can be ridiculous while retaining sex appeal.
