At approximately 4:00 AM on January 31, 2012 Quadra Island Volunteer Fire Department and Quadra Island RCMP attended to a house fire located on Weway Road at the Cape Mudge First Nation on Quadra Island. The house, which was fortunately unoccupied at the time, sustained major fire damage to the roof, upper floor, main floor, as well as significant smoke and water damage to the remainder of the structure. Investigation has determined that the fire was deliberately set and the origin of the fire was identified as the exterior front porch.
A red, plastic jerry can was located near the scene of the fire. Tied to the jerry can is a unique multi coloured rope.
The Quadra Island RCMP are requesting the public's assistance with this serious crime and are asking that if anyone witnessed this arson, can identify the jerry can, or has any information that they contact the Quadra Island RCMP at (250) 285-3631 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
