This year's "Bays, Bouquets and Bedspreads" Quilt and Garden Tour promises to be a wonderful experience. The tour explores gardens from around Quathiaski Cove up to the north end of the of the island at Open Bay so plan to make a day or two of it. Stop at one of the local eateries or take a picnic along. Your ticket is actually good for both days so you can take your time and enjoy the entire weekend.
The tour is the semi-annual fundraiser for both the Community Centre and Quadra Island Quilters' Guild. Tickets cost $12.00 per person and are on sale now at Hummingbird and Works of' H'Art. Because the organizers, quilters and gardeners volunteer their time and energy, all the income goes directly back into community projects. This year the Community Centre's portion of the proceeds will go towards completing the brick paving around the entrance of the building. The quilters' portion will go towards the purchase of materials for quilts, which are donated to the Vancouver Children's Hospital for children with life-threatening illnesses, Ronald McDonald House and Quadra Island community needs.
There are ten unique gardens on display and there will also be an SRD compost specialist available at the Community Garden to answer your questions. Between 70 and 100 gorgeous quilts will be shown in the various gardens.
So set aside the weekend of June 23 and 24 for the Quilt and Garden Tour 2012 and help to make this event a great success.
