A sold-out dinner hosted by the Heriot Bay Inn, combined with a silent auction and an engaging presentation by Bob McDonald of CBC’s Quirks and Quarks, made the evening a resounding success.
Following a fabulous dinner by HBI staff and ‘Quadra Parks 101’ by Campbell River Museum’s Ken Blackburn, Bob McDonald took the podium. In a talk entitled Perspectives on a Planet Bob identified Earth as the ‘Goldilocks’ residence in the universe, a living cell in which every green space is important for maintaining the treasure of life. His presentation was by turns funny, factual, and liberally sprinkled with antics and anecdotes.
Bob’s conclusion was crystal clear: Earth is a rare gem of a planet, and we need to take way better care of it. One of the best things to do, he said, is get ourselves and our kids unplugged and out into exactly the kinds of places that this campaign is trying to save. Judging from the applause, his audience couldn’t have agreed more.
Save the Heart of Quadra Parks would like to offer thanks to the many people who made this evening so successful, with special recognition to:
w Bob McDonald for taking time from a busy media life to give us his energetic, informative and inspiring help with this project.
w Ken Blackburn, Campbell River Museum’s program director, for guiding the evening with skill and good humour.
w Lois Taylor and the Heriot Bay Inn staff for managing the logistics and providing a fine dinner and generous accommodation for our special guests.
w Southend Farm Vineyards for giving three bottles of their Quadra wine as tokens of appreciation to Bob McDonald.
The silent auction earned about half of the $10,500 raised, thanks to enthusiastic bidding by the dinner crowd. A rich variety of goods and services were offered. Our appreciation and thanks goes to:
