Campbell River Art Gallery
There are lots of programs at the Campbell River Art Gallery this summer, for those who want to explore their artistic impulses.

For children ages 7-12 there are two week long, full day camps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with enthusiastic young artist Jessica Blue. 'Acrylic Adventures', July 23-27, offers a gamut of painting techniques using outdoor venues for inspiration. 'Art Extravaganza' from August 13-17, will give participants a chance to try many different mediums, from painting and collage to drawing and sculpture. Jessica, a local artist, has just completed her third year in visual arts at UVic and has years of experience working with children. All Children's Programs are sponsored by Grieg Seafood. There is a bursary program available for low-income families, sponsored by the Friends of the Gallery group.

Jessica is also managing the Gallery's popular Super Saturday program this summer, a drop-in family art making activity from 1-3 p.m. every other Saturday. Upcoming dates are: July 7 (Recycled Robots), July 21 (Charcoal Trees), August 4 (Underwater Watercolours), August 18 (Mini Art Journals) and September 1 (Clay Sculptures Inspired by the Beach). The program is available by donation, thanks to the sponsorship of Marna Disbrow.

There are programs for adults too, including a Plein Air Workshop with Jill Paris Rody and Perrin Sparks on Saturday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The workshop will inspire participants to try working outdoors on site, located in an outstanding garden in the Campbell River area, and costs $48 for Gallery members and $58 for non-members, plus HST.

Creative Street Photography workshop with Claudia Lorenz offers a very creative approach on August 11 (3-8 p.m.) and August 12 (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.). Lorenz will teach people to work with new technology using spontaneity as their guide. Any camera will work for this workshop, even your smartphone! Cost is $153 for members, $163 for non-members, plus HST.

Don't miss the Gallery's Annual Campbell River Garden & Art Tour on July 7 & 8, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m, when 10 outstanding private gardens will be open for viewing. This is a self-guided tour, with tickets available for $15 per person, which includes a map and discounts at several restaurants. The program is sponsored by Campbell River's Royal LePage Realty. Tickets will be available at the Gallery or at the Visitor Info Centre in Tyee Plaza through the weekend.

The Gallery also invites you to the River City Arts Fest on July 28, when Shoppers Row and Spirit Square Park will be transformed into a showcase and sale of local art and handcrafts. there will be nearly 100 booths and exhibitors, as well as music.
