Campbell River Art Gallery
There are lots of programs at the Campbell River Art Gallery this summer, for those who want to explore their artistic impulses.

For children ages 7-12 there are two week long, full day camps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with enthusiastic young artist Jessica Blue. These programs are sponsored by Grieg Seafood. Acrylic Adventures, July 23-27, offers a gamut of painting techniques using outdoor venues for inspiration. Art Extravaganza, from August 13-17, offers a chance to try many different mediums, from painting and collage to drawing and sculpture. Each camp costs $165 for Gallery members, $175 for non-members which includes all materials provided for all 5 sessions. Jessica, a local artist, has just completed her third year in visual arts at UVic and has years of experience working with children. There is also a bursary program available for low-income families, sponsored by the Friends Group of the Gallery.

Jessica is also managing the Gallery's popular Super Saturdays program this summer, a drop in family art making activity from 1-3 p.m. every other Saturday. Upcoming dates are: July 7 (Recycled Robots), July 21 (Charcoal Trees), August 4(Underwater Watercolours), August 18 (Mini Art Journals), and Sept 1 (Clay Sculptures Inspired by the Beach). The program is available by donation, thanks to the sponsorship of Marna Disbrow.

There are programs for adults too, including a Plein Air Painting Workshop with Jill Paris Rody and Perrin Sparks on Saturday July 21, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The workshop will inspire participants to try working outdoors on site, located in an outstanding garden in the Campbell River area, and costs $48 for Gallery members, $58 for non-members, plus HST.

Creative Street Photography workshop with Claudia Lorenz offers a very creative approach on August 11 (3 - 8 p.m.) and August 12 (10 a.m.-2 p.m. Lorenz will teach people to work with new technology using spontaneity as their guide. Any camera is good for this workshop, even your smartphone! The cost is $153 for Gallery members, $163 for non-members, plus HST.

The Gallery also invites you to the River City Arts Fest on July 28, when Shopper's Row and Spirit Square Park are transformed into a showcase and sale of local art and handcrafts. There will be nearly 100 booths and exhibitors, as well as live music!
