On September 2, 2012 at 2:48 PM the Quadra Island RCMP, Cortes Island Volunteer Fire Department and British Columbia Ambulance Service were advised of a single vehicle collision on Gorge Harbour Road on Cortes Island. The vehicle, which had gone off the road and down an embakment, was fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of emergency services. The lone male occupant and two dogs were found deceased inside the burned out vehicle. The deceased is a 78 year old Cortes Island resident. The crash is being investigated by Quadra Island RCMP, Campbell River RCMP Traffic Services and the British Columbia Coroner's Service. It is anticiapted that Gorge Harbour Road will be closed at Seaford Road and Whaletown Road from approximately 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Septmeber 3, 2012.
