Auditions for Theatre Quadra’s “Sleeping Beauty” – September 16 and 17
Theatre Quadra’s Fall production is “Sleeping Beauty”, a rollicking comedy in the pantomime tradition.
Written by Darcy Mitchell and directed by Candace Holmes with music direction by Linda Cannon, “Sleeping Beauty” features a cast of villains, fairies (wicked and otherwise), a princess (of course), her unlikely prince and a gang of animals ranging from cats through parrots, zebras and penguins. Remember that, in panto, the hero (principal boy) is played by a woman, while the comic female figure (the Dame) is played by a man.
Major parts (speaking/singing) include:
. Father Time – an elegant narrator (male)
. Wilhelmina – a Pretty Good Fairy (the Dame – male)
. Polyglot – her parrot (male or female)
. Fido – her cat (male or female)
. Simon - her apprentice (at age 8-12 and age 20-25) (Principal Boy- girl and teen/woman)
. Mathilda the Miserable – a really wicked fairy (female)
. Lord Mortimer of Malfoy – a really wicked villain (male)
. Princess Aurora Aurifera Athletica Academia (aka Kathy) – at age 8-9 and age 15-16 (girl/teen)
. King Rupert and Queen Penelope of Felicitania – her parents
. Freddie – a page (boy 8-12)

Parts for adult chorus and children include singing and dancing as medieval courtiers, knights in armour and zoo animals.
