SAVING THE COHO, ONE FISH AT A TIME; A QUADRA ISLAND SALMON ENHANCEMENT EVENING
Marine biologist Elan Downey talks about a local initiative that involved Quinsam Hatchery, Atlegay Fisheries, and the B. C. Center for Aquatic Health Sciences. The project looked at food productivity in the near-shore ocean environment and how this might be related to overall coho survival. This 5 year project generated a lot of interest as it was the first research project of this type that looked at the early marine environment that coho encountered in their first few weeks at sea.
Short talks will also be given by Salmon Enhancement volunteers on stream assessment and modification, drought proofing, fish counts for the 2012 year, and the health of the village Bay Lake chain. Join us on Wednesday, January 23 at 7PM. The admission is by donation to QISES.
