HOUSING AND SERVICE NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOR QUADRA ISLAND
As a result of several community meetings, it became apparent that housing needs on Quadra needed to be addressed. Representatives of the Seniors Housing Planning Committee, the Quadra Island Seniors' Housing Society and the group interested in the facilitation of Affordable Housing designed a questionnaire to get community demographics and input. When the newly-formed Emergency Preparedness group heard of the questionnaire, they asked if a small section could be added to help them be of better assistance to Quadra Islanders in emergency situations. Doing one questionnaire for all of the groups seemed the most efficient approach.
The questionnaire is mainly aimed at two groups--Firstly Seniors who realise that they will at some point have to downsize and who now or in the future will need services -and secondly adults of all ages who need “affordable” housing especially in view of today’s fast rising property market. Quadra needs young families to continue to be a thriving community. The group planning for affordable housing is exploring innovative methods(Land Trusts, rent to own Housing Societies etc which have been used successfully elsewhere )to facilitate home ownership or rental so that island residents can stay here.
A group of dedicated volunteers will be hand delivering a questionnaire, hopefully, to EVERY household. Any questions that a resident doesn't want to answer can be omitted. If anonymity is a concern, the questionnaire can be unsigned or returned to the volunteer in a sealed envelope. The information received will only be used to ascertain the needs and desires of Quadra residents to aid in decision-making, to provide more choices and to perhaps improve the quality of life of some folks on Quadra. The volunteers are attempting to deliver questionnaires over the next two weeks and results will be reported back to the community later on in the fall. Please return your questionnaire as soon as possible as we're hoping to have a high percentage of returns so this survey can be as accurate as possible. This is your chance to speak up!
If you have any time to volunteer with this project, we could sure use it! Any questions, please call:
Riki Vogt 285-2640, Carol Woolsey 285-3737.
You can view the questionnaire on the attachment. Although, please wait for your Neighbourhood Volunteer to bring you a copy to fill out. Our distribution and collection system is design to promote higher response rates. Thank you for your participation!
