Although our Friday Seniors Lunch program takes a summer break from June to the end of August, many Quadra Circle members are busy with our ongoing activities.
Quadra Home Meals program continues year-round. It has been very successful to date, with over 30 meals being provided weekly to Island seniors or caregivers unable to cook regularly and anyone dealing with illness. These tasty, nutritious meals are provided by Gowlland Harbour Resort at a nominal cost of $5 per meal. Choices range from soup/stew with bun, to a small entree to a full meal with fish/meat, vegetables and a starch. Food preferences, allergies and special diets can be accommodated. Meals can be reheated or frozen for later use. Just call Lynda Bell: 285-3205 or Karen Gair: 285-3064 to order the meals by Sunday noon. You can pick them up at the QCC on Wednesdays between 11:15am and 12:30pm. If needed, the meals can be delivered by our volunteers.
Seniors Housing Options
Our efforts to look into the range of housing needs for Quadra seniors who want to stay on Quadra as they age have resulted in some interesting possibilities which we will explore in the months ahead. We have looked at large homes, vacant land and the Whisky Point Resort for sale near Q Cove, all of which could work as supportive living residences with meals and social activities provided for seniors requiring some help with daily living and personal care. We are seeking expertise in the financing, design and operation of this kind of aging-in-place residence.
Housing Available NowWe have just received a wonderful offer of 2 types of furnished suites including laundry and housekeeping for interested seniors. This beautiful rural property with a well-tended garden and 3 private residences also has a cottage (bed-sitting room-style) and a two bedroom suite that could accommodate a couple or 2 people who want private bedrooms and bathrooms with shared livingroom and kitchen area. These ground-floor suites are tastefully furnished, self-contained and have kitchenettes. Rent is considerably reduced for Seniors tenants selected by Quadra Circle. Our vision is that the tenants can enjoy some shared meals, transportation and activities while living independently, without the demands of suite and property upkeep. The residents could also receive meals from Quadra Home Meals and home support from VIHA Home Care (depending on eligibility). If you are interested for yourself or for a family member, please call Mary McIntosh at 285-3084 or Karen Gair at 285-3064 for more information or to apply.
Stay TunedQuadra Circle hopes to hear good news soon on several grants we applied for. Our aim is to bring needed services to Quadra seniors. Services such as transportation, friendly visiting, suitable housing and home maintenance can help Seniors remain safely in their own homes while staying as active in the community as possible. If you want to join our Circle, volunteer or get more information, call Mary McIntosh at 285-3084 or Maureen McDowell at 285-2221.
