The British Columbia Minister of Justice has approved a province-wide amnesty program over the 30 day period extending from June 1st, 2013 to June 30th, 2013. The amnesty will permit a time-limited immunity from prosecution for offences contained in Sections 91, 92, 93 and 95 of the Criminal Code of Canada for any person who voluntarily surrenders any firearm, prohibited weapon, restricted ammunition, prohibited device and prohibited ammunition (firearm) during the specified time period. The amnesty will not be extended for any firearm that has been used in the commission of an offence. This initiative is an important opportunity for identifying and removing unauthorized and unwanted firearms from our community, and for enhancing public and police officer safety across the province. Individuals wishing to participate in this amnesty are to call the Quadra Island RCMP Detachment with particulars of their firearm and to arrange for a police officer to attend and take custody of the firearm. DO NOT BRING FIREARMS TO THE DETACHMENT – this amnesty specifically does NOT include section 94 CCC – Transporting a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle. The telephone number for the Quadra Island RCMP Detachment is 285-3631 or toll free at 1-866-888-0088
