This year’s Jazz at the Point line-up is top notch. I’ve been to every jazz night so far and the music has been wonderful each time. In case you’re not familiar with the bands here’s a quick bio on all of them and when you can see them at April Point Resort.

The Thievin Brothers are made up of Dennis on piano and Jim on the bass. Although originally from Penticton, Dennis and Jim are now based on Quadra Island. In addition to their contemporary instrumental jazz, you will also hear songs presented in the style of Al Jarreau, Van Morrison and Michael Bublé.

The Dave Ashton Trio features Dave Ashton on piano, Steve Moore on drums and Dave Blinzinger on saxophone. They focus mostly on jazz standards and show tunes from the big band era, including such notable tunes as 'Chicago', 'Ain't Misbehavin' and 'Alfie.’

This piano and vocal duo has been a staple at Jazz at the Point for many years. They play a mix of jazz and classic hits that always goes over well with the April Point diners.
Noelle Maffin Duo: Performing August 6
Singer Noelle Maffin is backed by Steve Smith on piano in this entertaining duo. They play traditional jazz and Latin music, with Noelle stating her influences are Ella Fitzgerald, Sheila Jordan, Miles Davis and Diana Krall.
Jazzberry Jam: August 13
This trio is known for their soothing dinner jazz, but also play a wide variety of jazz standards, blues, be-bop and ballads.
Hal Douglas Duo: Performing July 16, September 10
This duo is led by Hal Douglas, known for his soulful blues style with a clean guitar tone. Hal writes many of the original tunes performed by the band.
With so many great bands there’s never a bad night to check out Jazz at the Point. Come by, try the new menu in the dining room and enjoy some great jazz performed by some of the best local musicians around.
