CBC's consumer watchdog Marketplace sniffs out the truth about veterinary bills across Canada. Here's what you'll see:
'To launch the 41st season of Marketplace, Erica Johnson reveals how pet owners may be paying hundreds of dollars for questionable treatments and procedures at the vet. On hidden camera, Marketplace goes undercover with Marshall, a healthy bulldog, to ten veterinarians. The vets prescribe vaccines he doesn't need, testing that's unnecessary, expensive medications and pet food, as well as differing diagnoses.
'We talk to health and nutrition experts, as well as disgruntled pet owners, and take their concerns to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. With 14 million dogs and cats in Canada and a 90 per cent jump in household vet care spending over the last 12 years, no wonder pet owners facing soaring vet bills are Barking Mad.'
The season premiere of Marketplace airs tonight, October 4, at 8pm on CBC television. So put your paws up and grab a bowl of kibble. Woof woof!
