On Friday, January 31, 7:45 at the Quadra Community Centre, Friday Flicks presents Gabrielle. Quebec writer/director Louise Archambault gracefully handles this romance about a mentally challenged 25-year-old woman exploring love and sex for the first time.
Gabrielle is a choir singer whose relationship with Antoine, a handicapped man, is stifled by the practical concerns of everyone around them. Gabrielle’s lone advocate is her sister, Sophie, who supports Gabrielle’s need for independence and her right to be loved.
Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle is Canada’s official submission for the Oscar category of best foreign-language film in 2014.
