Quadra Legacy Grant-giving at Coastal Community Credit Union

Friday Lunch Program: We're excited that the Coastal Community Credit Union has awarded us a Quadra Legacy Fund grant to continue our nutritious lunch program for Islanders aged 55+. This week CCCU's Quadra Branch Manager, Shauna Helson, and Legacy Fund rep, Betty Doak, presented the cheque to Quadra Circle reps, Maureen McDowell and Diana Gault. Through the grant we cover the costs of food and supplies, room rental, meals co-ordinator, and honoraria for off-island speakers. Many research studies note that seniors' health and well-being improve when they eat healthy meals and enjoy the company of old and new friends. On average 30 people attend the 11am armchair exercise with Ann Lawrence and the noon lunch. Thanks to the Coastal Community Credit Union and Quadra Legacy Fund our Friday Lunch program can operate for another year.

In early February internationally-recognized Island artist, Perrin Sparks, sketched Frank Boas's portrait and explained some of her techniques to an enthralled audience. On Feb.21 RCMP officer Martin Neveu talks about protecting ourselves from scams and identity theft. Feb. 28th's speaker is Jeannette Taylor with tales of Quadra's history. Join us 1281 West Road (Lower Level at Quadra Bible Church). For information or to arrange a ride call Karen at 285-3477.

Quadra Circle's Housing Committee is working on a feasibility study and meeting with potential community partners to solidify its proposal for a Seniors Supported Living Residence and affordable and market-priced housing in Q Cove. Expertise (volunteer and paid) in site-planning and engineering, land conveyancing, business planning is needed. For more information contact Maureen:285-2221.

Quadra Home Meals: For $5 per meal Island seniors, care-givers and anyone dealing with illness or recovering from surgery can order tasty, nutritious meals prepared specially for the program by the Gowlland Harbour Resort Chef. Food preferences, allergies and special diets are accommodated. Meals can be reheated or frozen for later use. Pick them up at the Community Centre on Wednesdays between 11:30am and 12 noon. If needed, the meals can be delivered by our volunteers. To order by Sunday noon call Marie:285-3950 or Lynda:285-3205.
