Polish your boots and hold onto your hats! Quadra Singers will take islanders on both Quadra and Cortes for a ride across a range of musical styles during the Western Classics spring concert.
“We’re going a little bit country and a little bit classical with this April’s concert, blending western classical music with classic western tunes,” says choir director Linda Cannon. “We’re also working in a bit of theatre, and we’ll have guest performers and small groups share their favourite songs, and dancers young and not so young.”
The community choir will again welcome the MacIver & Chadwick dancers to the Quadra concert to perform country dancing. The concert will also feature line dancing.
And new to a Quadra Singers concert, there’ll be a cowboy boot contest that invites audience participation.
“Now’s the time to get those cowboy boots looking their best!” says Quadra Singers co-chair Margot Wood. “When people buy their ticket at the Quadra Community Centre, there’ll be a sign-up sheet, and anyone, especially children and old cow hands, can enter the contest.”
During intermission, contestants will demonstrate their best cowboy walk, how well they’ve waxed their boots, and then get creative answering a cowboy or cowgirl skill-testing question.
“We’ll give participants full rein to win a bunch of great prizes,” she adds.
On Quadra, the concert begins at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Community Centre. Pay at the door: $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
On Cortes, the concert begins at 3 p.m. April 27 at Gorge Hall. Cortes Islanders can look forward to brushing up their line dancing.
