My name is Pat Peterson and I'm the Family Nurse Practitioner for Quadra Island. I've been a Nurse Practitioner for three years and a Registered Nurse for over 20 years.
I'd like to provide some background on what a Nurse Practitioner or NP is and what services we provide. Nurse Practitioners operate from a nursing philosophy, looking at health and prevention from your perspective, whether you are in perfect health or live with a chronic condition. In British Columbia, all NPs have their Masters of Nursing. This gives us an extended scope of practice. We can order diagnostic tests and bloodwork, order most medications and refer clients to specialists, when indicated. We work primarily in clinics but do outreach to homes and to other venues (in this case Read Island and Cape Mudge).
At present, I work out of the Quadra Island Medical Clinic, Monday through Friday, 9:30 – 5:30 pm on an appointment basis.
