Quadra Circle News

WOW! Our newest venture (still needing a name) is a weekly Activity Centre for people “young at heart” at Quadra Elementary School. On Thursday, May 22 at 10 am a group of keeners invites you to visit for an hour over coffee and help create the new centre in the Literacy Room at the school. We're looking for your ideas - from games, crafts and music-making to sharing your life-stories, skills and interests. Thanks to Quadra Literacy and Quadra Elementary School for this wonderful opportunity! Call QCCCC for info: 285-2255.

Most of us have a strong 'do-it-yourself' streak that keeps us from asking for help when we need it – so we 'do without'. Yet, learning to reach out for assistance when it is available can actually help us remain independent longer and improve our quality of life as we age. Quadra Circle's programs are designed to respect your dignity and self-determination.

The Transportation Program:
Are you a senior who doesn't like to drive at night – so you miss a community event you'd love to attend? Or do you sometimes need a ride to go grocery-shopping, get to an appointment or meet a friend to chat. We have friendly volunteer drivers eager for the chance to give back to our community. Don't miss out - just call Diana at 285-3630 to arrange your ride.

Seniors Outreach Worker, Marie Sheran:285-3950 and her team visit seniors who want more information on our programs or who are recovering from illness or sometimes feeling a bit isolated.and would like a chance to chat.

Quadra Home Meals: aren't just for Island seniors unable or unwilling to cook regularly. Anyone dealing with illness or recovering from surgery and their caregivers can order these tasty, nutritious meals prepared for the program by the Gowlland Harbour Resort Chef. Cost is $5 per meal for soup/stew with bun, or a small entree, or a full meal with fish or meat, vegetables and a starch. Food preferences, allergies and special diets are accommodated. Meals can be reheated or frozen. Pick them up at the Community Centre on Wednesdays between 11:30am and 12 noon or pre-arrange delivery by our volunteers. To order by Sunday noon call Marie:285-3950 or Lynda:285-3205

Friday Lunch: For everyone over 50 - please join us Fridays at 11am for armchair exercises with Ann Lawrence or at noon to 1:30pm for a delicious lunch (by donation). On May 16 Sheelagh Elmitt will demonstrate safe ways to exercise. Lower Level at 1281 West Road (Quadra Bible Church).
