Robyn Budd for Sierra Quadra
You know Will Horter. He's the guy behind the No Tankers campaign, those cool little stick-ons that added oil slicks to loonies a few years ago. Will's the exec director of the Dogwood Initiative, a group of smart and sometimes sassy legal and enviro types who help ordinary folk like you and me protect our water and land from the rapacious grasp of, well, big government / big oil / big coal who seemingly want to plunder what we used to think of as our natural resources, and who seem to believe we're so asleep at the wheel that none of us will notice.
Well, there are at least 170,000 people in the province whose eyes are indeed open to the game, corresponding to the same number of people who support Will and the Dogwood bunch in their various campaigns.
We've lured Will away from his post as chief bottle washer at Dogwood to come up to the hinterlands and share tales with us. Not that we're looking for happy endings, but it's a great shot in the arm to hear from a frontlines activist with some legal smarts and a few good successes under his belt to get us re-inspired for living through these tryin' times!
After all, this year Sierra's offerings are all on the theme of Inspiring Activism. So come on out, give Will a listen (it promises to be an interesting evening!), and hang out with others of your ilk. Desserts are always great as you know, tea and coffee flow like wine (which, alas, is not on the menu), and admission is by donation.
When? This Saturday, September 20, at our fabulous Community Centre. Doors open at 7, Will's presentation begins at 7:30.
