We have so much yoga on the island and which class is for you? On Quadra, we have a variety of qualified teachers, each with a slightly different focus and approach. I write about the yoga I teach, restorative yoga.
This class is geared to healing through relaxation. The focus is on body sensation and breath. Attention is given to physical injuries, compromised joints, general tightness from living. The class provides an environment where you learn be with whatever is arising, specifically in areas causing pain or stress. This grows your awareness of how breath and movement can support healing. The majority of the class is passive poses done lying or sitting down. Many props are used to assist the body in relaxing. There are no special skills required.
As the student learns to let go and relax, muscles that have been contracted begin to lengthen, receiving more blood, space is created in the joints, and movement begins to free up. A sense of lightness in the body grows as health is restored and balance is created.
Sue’s Fall Session starts on September 29th for five weeks. Classes are Mondays, 7PM to 8:30PM or Thursday mornings 10AM -11:30AM. $55/5 weeks or $14 drop in. They are small classes. Please call ahead.
