The Quadra Island RCMP request public assistance with any information relating to recent break and enters in the communities of Heriot Bay and Quathiaski Cove. Several homes, cabins and travel trailers have been broken into with a variety of items stolen; including, a green Honda ATV. On October 11th, 2014 at approximately 8:00 PM the Quadra Island RCMP received a report of a single motor vehicle accident, whereas the vehicle had reportedly been driven into the Ocean. The driver, a 87 year old male, was the lone occupant of the vehicle at the time. Cortes Island Volunteer Fire Department, British Columbia Ambulance Service, Coast Guard and 442 Search and Rescue Squadron from 19 Wing Comox all participated in the rescue efforts. The vehicle was pulled from the ocean but despite efforts by emergency services, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is believed that the incident is accidental in nature however the matter is currently under routine investigation by the BC Coroners Service.
On October 13th, 2014 Quadra RCMP responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Quathiaski Cove. While at the residence, officers were advised by family that they were fearful of a family member as they were intoxicated and in possession of a firearm. The family were relocated to a safe location while officers communicated with the male in an attempt to resolve this situation. The male refused to listen to police direction and refused to come out of his residence. The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as additional officers from surrounding detachments attended to assist. The male eventually exited the residence and a firearm was seized by police. No one was injured during this incident and the investigation continues.
