Quadra Literacy is offering two presentation/discussion evenings for parents, grandparents and caregivers.
"Making Sense of Anxiety in Children & Youth", presented by Dr Gordon Neufeld (delivered via video format.) Wednesday, November 12 from 6:30 to 8:00 Dr Neufeld addresses reasons why anxiety is becoming an epidemic among children of all ages, and sheds some fresh light on this problem, paving the way for natural interventions that focus on the root causes as opposed to just managing the symptoms. Colleen Clarke, facilitator and Parent in Residence for The F.O.R.C.E. Society for Kids' Mental Health, will also be sharing some new resources on anxiety, and some of her insight as a parent of a teen who struggles deeply with high anxiety.
Self-regulation, presented by Shayla Johnson, Occupational Therapist. Wednesday, December 3 from 6:30 to 8:00. Self-regulation is a critical skill that underlies the mindful, intentional, and thoughtful behaviors of younger and older children alike. The term self-regulation refers to the capacity to control one’s impulses, both to stop doing something, if needed (even if one wants to continue doing it) and to start doing something, if needed (even if one doesn’t want to do it).
Both sessions will be followed by a discussion time and resource sharing for participants. These events will be held in the music room at Quadra Elementary. Child care is available if you contact Robin at robin.quadraliteracygmail.com or phone 250 285 3185.
