Chief Election Officer Tom Yates has declared the official results for the Strathcona Regional District 2014 elections. The Regional District will see at least four familiar faces on its new Board of Directors for the 2014 - 2018 term:
• Gerald Walley is re-elected by acclamation to the office of Director for Kyuoquot/Nootka - Sayward (Area 'A');
• Noba Anderson is re-elected to the office of Director for Cortes Island (Area 'B') with 287 votes;
• Jim Abram is re-elected by acclamation to the office of Director for Discovery Islands - Mainland Inlets (Area 'C'); and
• Brenda Leigh is re-elected to the office of Director for Oyster Bay - Buttle Lake (Area 'D') with 815 votes.
The four electoral area directors will be joined by eight member municipal directors and sworn in at the inaugural meeting of the Regional Board on December 11, 2014. Five directors will be appointed from the City of Campbell River, and one each from the Village of Sayward, Village of Tahsis, Village of Gold River and Village of Zeballos. The Board is also joined by a non-voting member of the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Chek’tles7et’h' First Nations.
The Strathcona Regional District is a partnership of four electoral areas and five municipalities providing approximately 43,000 residents with 55 services including parks, liquid and solid waste systems, fire protection, emergency preparedness programs and a full-service sports facility.
