How to create the WOW in your garden
It has been a warm January with the catkins swelling and flowers like Mahonia and Violet blooming early. We become inspired by the growing energy we see around us and feel the lengthening days. This year there have been numerous warm and dry days to work outside - a head start on the winter pruning. It is a great time of year to study the bones of the garden and contemplate what we can add to make it WOW!!
On Monday, February 16th, 7pm, the Garden Club welcomes Ellen Presley, co-owner of Anderton’s Nursery in the Comox Valley. Ellen’s talk will be ‘What’s New, Tried, and True. She will teach us how to make our gardens WOW - so bring along photos of your garden or small (movable) containers for advice on how to improve their design for 2015. What really works in your garden, your containers and your baskets? Share these ideas with the Club and have Ellen share her expert advice.
There will be door prizes (plants and containers) at this meeting, so get your ticket at the door. As a new addition to the Club agenda we will be having a contest. Seeds will be given away at the February meeting for members to grow for the April meeting. A big show of these carefully, grown seeds will take place at the April meeting. The best in show will be praised and admired. Your plants starts can be taken home or donated to the Plant Sale. The Club’s big plant sale will be the following Saturday, April 18th.
Go for a walk around your garden and observe - Spring is on its way. The hellebores are budding up and the early crocus, winter aconite and snowdrops will soon be in bloom. Do you have flowers to bring to the show and tell table? Drop ins welcome, $3 at the door, or buy a membership $10 annually.
