On Friday , March 27 at 7:45, Quadra Community Centre, Friday Flicks presents Pride.
Thatcher’s iron-fisted rule created waves of political protest in ‘80s Britain. The most amazing was when Welsh coal miners and London lesbians and gays found a common cause. Pride tells the story of that unlikely alliance. While government battled mining unions, London’s queer communities were perfecting artful activism. Mark – out, proud, and ready to take on THE MAN (er – THE WOMAN) rallies friends to join Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. Sharp humour and nuanced understanding of the ongoing LGBTQ struggle, Pride affirms the power of a transformational story.
A movie you can laugh along and dance to, and may well become the very first musical in London’s West End to bring disco to the grim Welsh coal mines.
