Do you have story to tell, maybe your early days living on Quadra or in some distant land? Maybe it is a story of your family? Perhaps you know someone who has lived a life full of stories that could be shared? Could be you are someone with a story and would enjoy working with another senior or individual to create your story.
Quadra Literacy is offering Telling Tales - a digital photo story workshop where you will learn how to create your story using photographs and text. We will provide computer tablets and a series of sessions to help you develop your ideas and create a project that you can share with family and friends.
There will be three or four free workshops offered over the year, in spring, summer, autumn and perhaps in the winter. The first workshop will begin in May.
Here are some ways to participate: -learn how to create your own digital photo story -volunteer to help someone create a digital photo story -collaborate with a senior in the community and create a digital photo story about them.
In this first year, seniors are given preference but the project is open to everyone. Once we have the hardware, software and expertise in the community this can be an ongoing opportunity to record the history of our community and its people.
An abundance of research has emerged in the past few years about the health benefits of friendships. We know that having a close-knit community helps us fight depression and illness, slows aging, promotes mental health and even leads to a longer life. Life is for learning, join us in Telling Tales.
On Monday, April 20 at 3:00 in the Literacy Centre at Quadra Elementary there will be an information meeting. If you are interested in participating in this project in any way over the year or would like further information, please contact Robin Beaton 250 285 3185 or email: robin.quadraliteracygmail.com
